Instead of having additional components
along the transfer path, this innovative
concept reduces the number of parts in
the transfer chain. This is achieved by
Integration of electrical functions in
the connector. In contrast to conventio-
nal technology we speak here of AICS

Optical data transmission via glass
fibres offers decisive advantages compa-
red to copper cables in terms of resi-
stance to electromagnetic interference,
transmission distance and speed.
Moreover fibre optics easily and quickly
fulfil the European Standard (EN) on EMC.
Interference-free transmission of data in
an electromagnetically strongly polluted
industrial environment is inexpensive and
works reliably from the very beginning.
For this reason the products first laun-
ched were converters from electrical sig-
nals into optical signals. The extensive
market for V.24/RS-232C is particularly
interesting (AICS RS-232/LWL).

EM-polluted environment, e.g.:
- attaching a printing to an industrial
PC, control etc.
- remote monitoring, programming,
operation of controls and the like.
Description of system
>The fibre optic modules permit asyn-
chronic full-duplex transmission for serial
V.24/RS-232C-interfaces with software
handshake (Xon/Xoff protocol) via a fibre
optic duplex cable.
Two different module technologies are
available:
For distances up to 60 m we recommend
the use of modules for low-cost PMMA
cable (..LWL-K). These can be assembled
without special tools. For longer distances
it is necessary to use modules for glass
fibre cables (..LWL-G) - through low
attenuation distances up to 2000 m are
possible.
A DTE/DCE switching is integrated to per-
mit matching to all RS-232C interfaces.
The modules is designed as a connector
in a metallised SUB-D housing and can
be attached like a standard SUB-D
connector to a 25-pole RS-232C interfa-
ce. For simple attachment to a TS 35 rail
there is a simpler form in a compact pla-
stic housing. Connection to the RS-232
interface ensue via a 9pole SUB-D
connector. For easy function monitoring
we have integrated LEDs for power /
receive and transmit.
If power supply via the SUB-D connector,
a separate power supply can be plugged
in via a 3-pole connector.
Fibre optic connection uses an FSMA
connector.
